Yazdan Pargoshaei's Taq Kasra: A Modern Jewel with Historical Echoes

Architectural Inspiration Meets Modern Design in a Unique Pendant

Yazdan Pargoshaei's Taq Kasra pendant, inspired by the architecture of the ancient Sasani Kingdom, combines historical grandeur with modern design to create a piece of jewelry that is both unique and deeply symbolic.

The Taq Kasra, meaning 'kasra arch', is a relic of the Sasani Kingdom, located in present-day Iraq. Its architecture, a method known as the Parthian dynasty, is characterized by subjectivism and the creation of arches. This structure was built to demonstrate wealth and grandeur, and to inspire awe in other nations. Pargoshaei's pendant is inspired by the geometry of the Taq Kasra and its symbolic power, combining art, power, and individuality in a single piece of jewelry.

The pendant's unique properties lie in its ability to convey wealth, uniqueness, and individuality to the wearer. Drawing inspiration from the grandeur of former sovereignties, the pendant uses the architectural method of the Taq Kasra to create a modern piece with a distinct perspective. From the side, the pendant resembles a tunnel, symbolizing subjectivism, while from the front, it creates an arched space.

The pendant is modeled on a computer, printed with 3D printing technology, and cast to be used as a mold. It is made from 18k yellow and black gold, with a white pearl and enamel. The pendant measures 30mm x 22mm, with a pipe thickness of 0.6mm, and the pearl is 8mm in size.

Pargoshaei's design process began with research into Tehran's 'Azadi Tower', which features an arch inspired by the Taq Kasra. This led to further research into the Taq Kasra itself, its purpose, and its architecture. In order to modernize the piece, Pargoshaei also studied modern architecture. The main challenge was to create a unique freeform pendant that combined both geometric and artistic elements, while modernizing the shape and geometry of the Taq Kasra and preserving its symbolic meaning.

The Taq Kasra pendant was awarded Silver in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2019. The Silver A' Design Award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and inspire positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

Copyrights for the Taq Kasra pendant belong to Yazdan Pargoshaei, 2019. The pendant is a testament to Pargoshaei's ability to combine historical inspiration with modern design to create a piece of jewelry that is not only beautiful, but also deeply symbolic and unique.
